dUm's Penance - Grenade Types

This is your standard fragmentation grenade, which has been used on battlefields for years. It works by blowing the fragile outer casing apart, sending lethal shrapnel out at high speed. Recent improvements to the design have been reshaping the grenade for use in underslung grenade launchers. This has had the added benefit increased distance when thrown and increasing the number of shards that the shell splits into.

Flechete grenades are a more suppressive form of the fragmentation grenade. The casing is specifically designed to splinter into hundreds of small dart-like shards, which force anything in the blast radius to stay in cover. While they lack the power of a standard grenade, they can be deadly against unarmoured targets.

By packing the casing with a highly flammable substance, the standard grenade design becomes a fire starting incendiary grenade. Because of the volatile nature of the fuel, the casing has been designed to only split into four sections, which, unfortunately, limits the immediate spread of the flames.

Acting like a gigantic flashbang, the casing for this grenade splits in two, and the white phosphorus inside ignites, creating a bright glow that blinds anything looking at it directly and limits the vision of those that are in its blast radius.

Similar in design to a flash grenade, the smoke grenade design splits in two and pumps out a thick cloud of black smoke that chokes those without gas masks and limits vision.

Using a simple vacuum based shock, stun grenades are designed to create a subsonic blast that knocks anything in the blast radius unconscious.

Based on the smoke grenade, gas greandes replaces the thick smoke with a toxic gas that typically causes inflammation of the victims lungs. The gas itself can come in a variety of options including colourless or coloured and odourless or fragrant.

Electro Magnetic Pulse
One of the most versatile grenades in the information dominated age, EMP grenades use a high voltage charge to create a shockwave that overloads and shuts down unprotected electrical devices.

Similar in function to EMP grenades, chafe grenades fill the blast radius with electro-magnetically charges iron filings that temporary overload electrical devices.

The Wire grenade was commissioned at the end of the last century as a non-lethal method of capturing dangerous suspects. When the grenade explodes, several wires shoot outward, entangling any objects in the blast radius.

While uncommonly deployed by SLA Industries operatives, retreat grenades are extremely useful. When thrown or dropped behind a retreating operative, they spray the area with caltrops, hindering the pursuers

Why were paint grenades invented? They are simple devices, spraying the area with a brightly coloured paint, and therefore, they seem to serve no real use to operatives.

These grenades are probably based on paint grenades, as the coverage of the sprayed liquid seems identical. However the corrosive acid seems much more useful than paint...

An intriguing design, let down by the poor range, these grenades spit out a thick gel that solidifies quickly in air, holding anything caught in the gel still for 2 minutes, at which point the gel begins to breakdown.
